Trees are vital to our planet’s carbon dioxide cycle and provide habitats for a variety of wildlife – and that’s why sustainable forestry is so important. We harvest our softwood every 15 years, only taking what we need without depleting our sources. Sustainability is ensuring we leave a better world for future generations.
Local Roots, Nationwide Reach
Merrett Logging’s base camp is in Penola, South Australia. However, we have a broader service area with a depot in Mount Gambler and deliver as far as Colac, and Geelong. We work within South Australia and Victoria’s green triangle, which spreads between Portland, Hamilton, Penola and Millicent. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to call us for all your forestry harvesting and haulage needs.

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Boilermaker/Fabricator with CAD experience (or someone eager to learn) & a qualified diesel mechanic to join our team!
𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐁𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫/𝐅𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬:
🌲Fabricate and assemble steel structures and components for logging equipment.
🌲Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure accuracy.
🌲Perform welding and cutting tasks as part of fabrication and repair work.
🌲Operate various fabrication machinery (e.g., grinders, saws, and presses).
🌲Work collaboratively with the team to meet deadlines and ensure high-quality workmanship.
🌲Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment as required.
🌲Use CAD software to design and modify parts as needed (training provided if not experienced).
🌲Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and regulations on-site.
𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
🌲Proven experience as a Boilermaker/Fabricator, preferably in a related industry.
🌲Basic CAD experience or the willingness to learn (training can be provided).
🌲Strong welding and fabrication skills (MIG, TIG, stick).
🌲Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
🌲A proactive approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.
🌲Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.
🌲Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
🌲Valid driver’s license.
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬:
🌲Experience with logging equipment fabrication and repair.
🌲Additional CAD software proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
🌲Previous experience in a manufacturing or heavy equipment environment
𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬:
🌲Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and heavy machinery, including logging trucks, equipment, and forestry vehicles.
🌲Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, and efficiently repair or replace parts.
🌲Conduct inspections to identify issues and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
🌲Collaborate with the team to ensure equipment is always running at optimal performance.
🌲Keep detailed records of work performed, including service history and parts used.
🌲Maintain a clean and organised work environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
🌲Proven experience in servicing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy machinery.
🌲Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
🌲Familiarity with diesel diagnostic tools and equipment.
🌲Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
🌲Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
🌲Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
